A company sold a candle for $75. It sold out. It is the joke that comes with
her name, and the only famous thing goop sold that never claimed to do
anything.
Everything else did. So this film gives every item its exact name, its exact
price, and the claim in goop’s own published words. Nothing else.
Then it follows the pattern. In 2016 the National Advertising Division,
reviewing supplements goop promoted, wrote down goop’s obligation as a
marketer to verify what its products claim — then never reached the merits:
the claims had been “permanently discontinued” first. In 2018 ten California
DAs took goop to Napa County Superior Court over the jade egg and two other
products; that judgment says on its face it was entered “without trial or
adjudication of any issue of fact or law.”
We read 276 archived copies of those pages. The hormone claim left the website
in spring 2017, 16 months before any prosecutor said a word. In January 2020 a
watchdog told those prosecutors where it had gone: onto the product insert,
attributed to “fans.” That word was already on the 2017 shop page, under a
product named for the interviewee whose Q&A carried the strongest claims.
The last chapter is current: her fund, a company using her voice since 2023,
and an invitation nobody had confirmed or denied on the record as of 25 Aug
2026.
In 18 years no authority has found this company did anything wrong. No FTC
action, no FDA warning letter, no published ASA ruling, zero goop products
among the 187 candle recalls in the CPSC’s database. Everything here was
legal, on sale, and bought. Nothing alleges wrongdoing by anyone.
