$274.5 MILLION — Michael Gill | The Rise and the Fall

On the Record (Part 1)

CORRECTIONS (see comments): 21:50 "omission" = admission; the 2008 orders were settlements without admission. 15:17 "silence offer" claims date to Sept. 2017, not 2019. 26:27 seven months, not fifteen.

CORRECTION (8/26/26): the cold open’s “by a wide margin, the largest defamation award in state history” was the plaintiffs’ lawyer’s stated belief (AP, 9/29/17), not a court finding; “by a wide margin” is withdrawn.

NAME-COLLISION NOTICE — READ FIRST
This is Michael J. Gill (Michael James Gill) of Plaistow, New Hampshire — the mortgage
company founder and racehorse owner. He is NOT the late Michael D. Gill, the former
federal official who died in Washington in 2024. Different man, no relation.

WHAT THIS EPISODE DOES NOT CLAIM
No count of dead horses is stated as fact — the primary records are exempt or purged, and
that dead end is shown on screen.
Gill was right that there was crime at Penn National, AND the courts still found his own
ejection lawful. Both halves, every time.
The 2017 contempt warrant is presented as TIMING ONLY. No record states why he stayed
away from his own trial.
Nothing here says he admitted fraud. The consent orders were resolved without admission,
and the one admission in the file belongs to someone else.

THE JUDGMENT: Anagnost et al. v. Gill, No. 216-2016-CV-00277 (N.H. Super. Ct.)
Jury verdict Sept. 29, 2017 — $274.5 million. Final Judgment Order (Tucker, J.,
Nov. 19, 2018) — $274,500,000.00 plus prejudgment interest $17,606,398.79 and costs $1,557.49. The order fixes no combined total.

DOCUMENTARY (TIER 2)
